On the Riviera Maya, about 45 minutes south of the Cancun airport, in the gated, beachfront community called Playacar. Just south of, and in walking distance of Playa del Carmen. The hotel is on an excellent white sand beach overlooking the island of Cozumel.

This 6 star All-Inclusive resort is top of the line for Riu Hotels. A Crystal Award winner for 2003, selected "Best Staff & Service" by Apple Vacationers. The air-conditioned lobby has a huge crystal chandelier, a tiny Spanish chapel, and hand painted murals. The formal gardens and fountains, a great pool, and excellent beach and fine dining make this hotel very special.

5 restaurants featuring Brazilian Rodizio, Mexican, Italian, Gourmet, and an International buffet with on-the-spot show cooking. Reservations required for dinner. The dinner buffet has two seatings and closes for a short time between seatings to replentish the buffet. Dress code at all restaurants. Gentlemen wear slacks and a nice shirt.

434 air-conditioned rooms are beautifully decorated in rich wood and granite rose tile. Two double beds, bathroom with hair dryer, sitting area, ceiling fan, fully stocked mini-bar and liquor dispensor, in-room safe, satellite tv with movies, phone and balcony or terrace. Cribs and rollaway beds can be requested, and are complimentary. Run of House rooms have either garden or fountain view. Superior rooms have fountain view. Suite has garden view. Suite with Jacuzzi has partial ocean view. Continental breakfast room service from 7:00am-10:30am.

Beach |

This used to be an absolutely gorgeous, fine white sand beach. Perfect for swimming and water sports. Lounge chairs, palapas, and shade trees. Beach towels provided....but no more. We visited in April 2007 and found a 12 foot section of beach the entire width of the hotel had dropped into the ocean, taking the first row of palm trees and their sprinkler system with it. Next door, at the Viva Wynham, they lost their beach entirely, and re-built it with huge sand bags. But if you walk to the south of the hotel a short ways, the beach is still great. You can no longer walk to Playa del Carmen along the beach.

Daytime adult entertainment and live music 6 times a week. Disco at Riu Tequila open nightly. The lobby bar serves top shelf drinks in an elegant setting.

Guests staying the Riu Palace Mexico can also use the facilities of the neighboring Riu Yucatan, Riu Playacar, and Riu Tequila hotels. Guests from these hotels cannot use the Riu Palace facilities. All guests have dinner at the hotel they are staying at. You are free to eat breakfast and lunch at the other hotels.
