Porto Real is located on the beach, in Playa del Carmen. About 30 minutes from Cancun airport (south), or a one hour ferry ride from Cozumel.

Junior Suite run of house, has either garden, pool, or limited ocean view. Junior Suite ocean view also available. Smaller standard hotel rooms with street, garden, or limited ocean view and shared balconies are also available.

Maria Margarita, offers fine dining, reservations and dress code required; serving traditional food, with a good wine list, and lots of appetizers. Albatros is the main restaurant, serving buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Gaviotas is the pool side snack bar serving burgers, hot dogs, cocktails. Il Pescatore, serves fine Italian food and wines in a romantic setting. Challenges sports bar is also on premises, serving bar foods and great tequila slammers. There are also many choices for restaurants in Playa del Carmen, within just a few minutes walking distance of the hotel. In the fine dining restaurants, gentlemen wear slacks and a nice shirt.

This hotel is offered on either a European Plan (no meals) or All-Inclusive basis. The All-Inclusive option includes buffet breakfast, lunch, snacks, with choice of buffet or a la carte dinner including fine cuts and shrimp/lobster with a $14 surcharge per person. Domestic drinks, tennis, non-motorized water sports, taxes, tips, room service once per day, and minibar also included. Since the hotel is so close to other area restaurants, we think the European Plan is a better value. The new Royal Porto Real across the street from the Gran Porto Real is now open.  A review of this hotel will be added soon.
